Boxing megastar Canelo Alvarez launches Tequila canned cocktail range

Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez has announced the launch of his own range of Tequila-based ready-to-drink (RTD) canned cocktails that pay homage to the Guadalajara-born fighter’s homeland. 

Fresh off his 12-round shutout victory against fellow boxing royalty Genady Golovkin this month, megastar pugilist Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez has announced the launch of his own range of RTD Tequila-based canned cocktails, named VMC, an acronym for Viva Mexico Cabrones.

Canelo Alvarez’s VMC canned cocktails come in three flavour expressions: Paloma, Margarita and Jamaica, the boxer revealed in an announcement post on his Instagram page.

The RTD beverages are presented in 355-milliliter cans and have 6% ABV.

“Our origin brought us to this moment. It is that same origin that will take us to where we want to go. Today a dream comes true that shows that we are unique and we are ready to celebrate with all the strength that unites us”, Canelo Alvarez commented.

The fighter’s recent social media posts have featured the VMC canned cocktails heavily.

In his announcement post translated into English, Canelo wrote, “I invite you to celebrate with me the launch of my new project. #VMC is a tribute to our roots”.

RTDs and canned cocktails have been soaring in recent times, propelled first during the pandemic and since as a convenient drinking format. Indeed, beverage giant Coca-Cola has been dipping its toe into the alc-bev market by way of the RTD sector in recent months.

Canelo Alvarez defeated Genady Golovkin by unanimous decision to retain his super-middleweight titles at T Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on 17 September. It is widely expected that Canelo will attempt to avenge his defeat to light heavyweight world champion Dimitry Bivol in his next bout, though a long standing wrist injury could require surgery, pushing that fight date further back.

Hollywood actor Michael B. Jordan has also revealed that the Mexican fighter is set to feature in the next Creed movie.
