US single-owner collection sale achieves U$3.2m
A single‑owner collection of wines which included the ‘greatest offerings of rare and mature California wines ever to come to auction’ achieved US$3.230million this week at a Christie’s New York sale.

The white glove Exceptional Private Cellar of a Silicon Valley Pioneer achieved 132% over its low estimate on 5 June at Rockefeller Center, with some “exceptional” prices for Burgundy, American and Italian wines and spirits.
The top lot was a six-bottle lot of Domaine Georges Roumier, Bonnes‑Mares 1971, which tripled its high estimate to realise US$100,000, a sum matched by a 11 bottle-lot of Domaine de la Romanée‑Conti, La Tâche 1990. Other highlights from Burgundy included 12 bottles of Domaine Dujac, Clos Saint‑Denis 1985, which sold for US$93,750 against a low estimate of US$60,000; and ten bottles of Domaine Armand Rousseau, Chambertin‑Clos de Bèze 1985, which realized US$81,250.
Among the US highlights, a six-bottle lot of Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars, S.L.V. 1973 achieved US$25,000, with Heitz Cellar, Martha’s Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 1974 (8 bottles) achieving US$30,000.
Christie’s head of wine, America, Chris Munro, said the “incredible” results across all categories reflected the “superb provenance, the collector’s discerning eye and the strong world-wide demand for the world’s rarest wines”.

Spirits also sold well, with the Van Winkle Kentucky Straight Bourbon Special Reserve 19‑Year‑Old achieving US$20,000.
