Glenmorangie has announced its latest limited edition offering – a 25-year-old Highland single malt Scotch finished in prized Chardonnay casks from Sonoma-Cutrer winery.

There are just 1,000 bottles of Glenmorangie Sonoma- Cutrer Reserve in existence, as a result of “an experiment which may never be repeated,” according to a press release.

Dr Bill Lumsden, Director of Whisky Creation, said: “I can almost taste the sunshine ripening California’s grapes, in our richly delicious Glenmorangie Sonoma-Cutrer Reserve. Swirling with aromas of roses and carnations, and tastes of buttery vanilla, mandarin and pears, it’s as delicious as the whisky I imagined when I first tried Sonoma-Cutrer’s Chardonnay wines, so long ago. Finished for 15 years in a small batch of these casks, which we have never used before at Glenmorangie, this single malt is an absolute one-off. Bold and creamy, yet still superbly subtle, it deserves to be enjoyed by whisky lovers old and new.”

Sonoma-Cutrer wine casks were sourced by Dr Bill from the winery. In 2005, he filled the casks with a select batch of the brand’s single malt that he had distilled 10 years earlier. The casks were then set aside – until now.

Glenmorangie Sonoma-Cutrer Reserve has been handpicked by Dr Bill Lumsden and will be released exclusively through the Moët Hennessy Private Client team.

Earlier this month, we revealed that the brand was releasing a special ‘made to mix’ single malt. You can read all about that here.
