New on Wine List Confidential: Rotorino

Rotorino – Wine List Confidential Score: 87.8

A good list here put together by Ruth Spivey (Wine Car Boot), and great fun exploring. Italy-heavy with some other carefully selected choices.

House wines give diners the choice of whites or reds from the north or the south of Italy. There are always around 20 bottles open to taste by the glass – choose from the likes of the excellent ‘Dragon’ white blend (mainly Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc from Luigi Baudana in Piedmont; grapes from the highly regarded Cerretta cru in Serralunga – £7 for 125ml), or the recherché  Susumaniello (a rare and ancient red Puglian variety) made by A Mano Wines (£6.50 for 125ml).

Classics like Fontodi Chianti Classico (£40 per bottle) and Pieropan ‘La Rocca’ Soave rub shoulders with unconventional bottlings such as the biodynamic Franz Haas ‘Manna’ from Alto Adige – a Riesling and Chardonnay blend with smaller amounts of late-picked Traminer Aromatico (Gewürztraminer) and Sauvignon Blanc; and Vinteloper’s Touriga Nacional (imported by the excellent Red Squirrel) – a great example of this (native Portuguese) Aussie ‘alternative’ variety.

A tidy little list for a bang tidy Hackney restaurant.
