Fred Bakery team to launch Turkish restaurant in Fitzrovia

Lokal, the new restaurant from the team behind Fred Bakery and Faros, is set to launch on Friday 1 May, bringing a blend of Turkish cuisine and contemporary dining to the heart of Fitzrovia.

In recent years, Turkish wines have begun to find their foothold in London’s restaurant circuit, led by Isa Bal MS’s two-Michelin starred Trivet. Last year, Donald Edwards told the drinks business why he believed Türkiye

could soon be just as successful as Greek wine on London wine lists.

It’s partly driven by the boom in Turkish food in the capital over the past decade, and now, Lokal is joining the ranks of restaurants balancing traditional cuisine with contemporary flair.

In the kitchen, head chefs Salih Serden and Akacan Agir have crafted a small plates menu focusing on modern Turkish cooking with high-quality, locally sourced ingredients at its core. Honouring Anatolian roots, dishes include handmade mezze and fresh salads to reinterpretations of classics, such as Lamb Tandır and Lamb Loin.

Guests can also enjoy signature cocktail serves include Mesopotamia, a tequila blend infused with padrón peppers, rosé wine, Campari and rosehip cordial, and Galata, a fusion of Yeni rakı, Tokaji sweet wine, lychee liqueur and elderflower, paying homage to Istanbul’s iconic tower.

The restaurant, which features 110 covers indoors and 14 outdoors, has been designed using raw, tactile materials and warm finishes across its main interior, semi-private dining room, counter dining and cocktail bar.

Co-founder Burak Demirelli said: “Following the success of Fred Bakery and Faros, we wanted Lokal to move beyond expectations of Turkish food and showcase its depth, diversity, and versatility.

“London felt like the perfect place to do that – there’s an openness here to new ideas, while still appreciating authenticity. For us, it’s about bringing those two worlds together on one table.”
