Low calorie craft lager with electrolytes launches

Ska Brewing and Steamworks Brewing Co. have released a new low calorie craft lager with added electrolytes.

The beer, named Faceplant, has been created to celebrate 50 years of Durango’s bike race ‘The Iron Horse’.

This year, the two local breweries collaborated with Tailwind Nutrition to make a low calorie lager with electrolytes using Mandarina Bavaria hops and orange blossom honey.

Jeff Vierling, co-founder of Tailwind Nutrition said: “Tailwind is excited for our first-ever nutrition and beer collaboration to take place during one of the biggest celebratory months in Durango, and with iconic local breweries. We hope Faceplant lager brings riders and community members together in celebration of the 50th Iron Horse – while replenishing some electrolytes. We want to thank Ska and Steamworks for including us in this highly anticipated annual collaboration, and for keeping it close to home.”

Faceplant will be available in cans at Ska, Steamworks, and local liquor stores as well as on tap at both breweries on 27 May for Iron Horse Weekend.

The Iron Horse bike challenge began as a competition among two brothers that has since become a badge of honour that many Four Corners locals and visitors alike claim each year as they ride road, gravel, and mountain paths from Durango to Silverton and Ouray.

Ska Brewing and the Steamworks Brewing Company are both based in Durango, Colorado where Tailwind Nutrition also resides manufacturing it’s all-natural sports nutrition products.
