Majestic and Moët & Chandon team up on Drinks Trust fundraiser

Wine retailer Majestic and Champagne house Moët & Chandon are set to raise money for The Drinks Trust, with proceeds from the sale of 2,000 bottles of Moët & Chandon Brut Impérial being donated to the charity.

The intention is that the money raised will be put towards areas of the industry hardest hit by the Covid-19 outbreak.

Trade charity The Drinks Trust, which was founded in 1886, has already raised over £1 million through a coronavirus support campaign launched in March. 

From 21 May, customers can buy bottles of Moët & Chandon Impérial through the Majestic website. 100% of the proceeds from the sale will be donated to the drinks charity.

Chief commercial officer of Majestic, Robert Cooke, said: “The work The Drinks Trust does has never been more important in supporting the overall health of the UK’s hard-working drinks industry.

“With so much uncertainty surrounding the sector in the face of Covid-19, we were keen to find further ways Majestic could help – and we’re delighted to be working with Moët & Chandon to do just that.”

It follows news of a “major expansion” in a delivery partnership between Majestic and Deliveroo. 50 new Majestic wine stores will be covered by the Deliveroo app, taking the total number to 80 sites.

Over 50 wines, Champagnes and spirits will be available to order through the app for delivery in under 30 minutes. Sites are dotted throughout the UK, including in Nottingham, Reading, Bristol, Birmingham, Cardiff and Glasgow, with six new London stores also added.

The wine retailer has also implemented a number of key personnel changes in the last month. Chief commercial officer Robert Cooke will now run Majestic Commercial, the retailer’s trade division, alongside overseeing Majestic’s trading proposition and buying teams. Olivia Fitzgerald, who formerly headed up the Commercial division, has left the business.

In other changes, Matthew Gaunt has been appointed interim customer director, John Storm has been made head of buying, and Deborah Ormondroyd becomes the new regional manager for London.
