Virgin launches shake for Champagne app delivery service for cruises

Cruise line Virgin Voyages has launched an on-demand Champagne delivery service which allows users to request a bottle of fizz by shaking their phone.

Inspired by the ‘press for Champagne’ concept, pioneered by London restaurant Bob Bob Ricard, Virgin has taken it a step further, scaling up the operation to be used on board its ship Scarlet Lady.

By downloading Virgin Voyages Sailor App, users are invited to shake their phones whereby a Champagne button is revealed. By pressing, users can order a bottle of Möet Chandon Impérial to be delivered anywhere on the boat.

The bottles will come in a red Champagne bucket with two glasses at a cost of US$95 (£77.57) per bottle.

We want our sailors to enjoy a glamorous holiday and what better way to feel like a rock star than a sip of bubbly whenever and wherever you want it.”

We are committed to creating the world’s most irresistible travel brand, so we thought long and hard about how to help our sailors effortlessly get a sip of bubbly during their voyage, and presto Shake for Champagne was conjured up!”

Virgin has also launched Sip, a new on board Champagne and caviar bar. In partnership with Möet, guests can opt for a glass of fizz from $9 to a bottle of vintage Champagne for $1,000.

Virgin Voyages has operations in the US, UK and Europe and has four ships on order with shipbuilder Fincantieri. It will open for business in 2020 with the first voyage setting sail from Miami to the Caribbean with over 2,770 passengers and 1,150 crew. The Scarlet lady will only be open to travellers aged over 18.
