HKTDC conference to examine top wine trends shaping Asia

A wine conference planned for the first day of the upcoming Hong Kong International Wine & Spirits Fair will unite a panel of experts on the Asian market to discuss the top trends that will shake up the region from e-commerce and premiumisation to anti-counterfeit wine development.

Titled “Driving growth: the flourishing Asia wine market”, the conference will be moderated by Debra Meiburg MW and will unite top experts including masters of wine, fine wine authentication experts, market researchers and e-commerce experts to analyse and dissect the latest trends in Asia, especially in Hong Kong and mainland China.

Hianyang Chan, consultant at Euromonitor, will share his observations and predictions for key trends and consumer preferences in the Asian wine industry.

Sarah Heller MW and Cynthia Yang, senior manager of China’s leading e-commerce company JD.com, will take a closer look at how e-commerce is “disrupting” the wine landscape in Asia, while Marcus Ford, the newly appointed Asia market manager of Wines of South Africa, will share trends of premiumisation in the China market.

David Wainwright, director of Wainwright Advisors, who worked for auction houses such as Christie’s and Zachys, will focus on counterfeit wine activities in the market, a problem that affects wine sales from low-end labels to high-priced items.

In addition, David Gaudinat, owner of Champagne Gaudinat Boivin, will share insights on organic wine production and market demand.

The conference will be held from 2pm to 5pm in the Seminar Room, Hall 3E Concourse inside Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre on 8 November.
