Cabernet Gernischt

gernischt

One of the most widely planted varietals in China, Cabernet Gernischt caused a bit of consternation in the wine world over the years, because no one really knew was it was.

However, recent DNA profiling has found Cabernet Gernischt to be Carmenere, and now Gernischt is attracting some attention around the world, with Jancis Robinson giving 16 points to Changyu’s Noble Dragon, describing it as having “the aroma of Cabernet Franc and texture of Cabernet Sauvignon.”

How to pronounce:  Use a soft ‘g’ (as in gymnasium) to make: ger-nixt

Call me pedantic … and many do 😉 … but personally I’d go for:
    bear-un-ouse-ley-seh
    trocken-bear-un-ouse-ley-seh
    shpate-boorg-oonder
    geh-vuertz-trah-mee-ner

  2. Okay, so how do we pronounce, “Naoussa?”

Difficult exercise by Lucy Jenkins, I guess…

Try to type in Bourgeuil in Google Translate, make sure you translate from French, click on the audio button, and you’ll get the right sound.

Not being a native English speaker, I am not sure how to pronounce “bor-guhy”… so I typed it in Google Translate, picked English, then clicked on the audio button…. and had a good laugh!

Where has the phonetic alphabet gone? Not taught in schools anymore, oh well, thanks to Google Translate, there is no need for it anymore!

Merci Lucy (for the good laugh!)
