BBC to uncover nasty ingredients in drinks

UK TV channel BBC3 will tonight air a potentially inflammatory programme on the ingredients in certain alcoholic products on the UK’s supermarket shelves.

Called Britain’s Really Disgusting Drinks, the documentary considers the contents of plonk, super-strength lager and the so-called “functional” drinks sector.

It will be presented by comedian Alex Riley and follows his controversial Britain’s Really Disgusting Foods shown last November.

Tonight’s programme, which starts at 9pm, includes an interview with wine critic and biodynamic winemaker Monty Waldin on the “hidden ingredients” in wine.

It’s another potentially inflammatory expose of the drinks industry after September 2008’s Dispatches documentary called What’s in Your Wine, written and presented by The Sun newspaper’s Jane Moore.

In 2009’s Britain’s Really Disgusting Foods presenter Riley checked out the nutritional content of low-budget meat and interrogated manufacturers behind products of dubious environmental and nutritional quality.
