Artisanal Spirits Company unveils luxury private cask programme

The Artisanal Spirits Company (ASC), has launched a new private cask programme that will allow collectors and whisky afficionados to buy from a “curated selection of outstanding quality, aged Scotch whisky casks of impeccable provenance”, the company said.

Only a handful of casks will be released each year as part of the new venture, Artisan Cask, although all of them are of a quality that allows for immediate bottling, and aged for at at least 20 years, with the potential for additional maturation.

This year’s showcase includes aged casks from Laphroaig, Macallan, Mortlach and Bowmore priced between £50,000 and £600,000, depending on age, distillery name and cask size.

Great care is taken when pairing spirit and wood, the company noted, and each cask is regularly assessed “to ensure that the perfect balance between oak and distillery character is maintained”.

“Where we believe the whisky can be elevated even further, no expense is spared in doing so, with the whisky-makers paying regular visits to the world’s finest cooperages and sherry bodegas to acquire casks for this purpose, upon which they receive daily care and attention from maturation to bottling,” it added.

The new programme, which is being led by the Artisanal Spirits Company private client director James Mackay, was unveiled to a select audience aboard a 125-year-old classic sailing yacht in Monaco last week, with further launch events planned in Singapore, New York, and Dubai.

Mackay said that the Artisan Casks programme brought together “everything that makes single malt Scotch whisky so special to me: the most authentic, time-honoured application of craft, with each cask the focus of years of technical artistry, patience and uncompromising attention to detail”.

“With its pedigree, expertise and outstanding cask inventory, the Artisanal Spirits Company is uniquely placed to offer individuals access to this world,” he said. “Becoming the owner of such a cask is truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, one that I can’t wait to share and celebrate with like-minded souls around the world”

Cask owners will receive privileged access to some of Scotland’s most renowned distilleries as part of the Artisanal Spirits Company’s collaboration with partners and affiliates, as well as sought-after bottlings and as well as invitations to exclusive events.

The Artisanal Spirits Company is the owner of The Scotch Malt Whisky Society (SMWS), US-based independent bottler Single Cask Nation (SCN), which it acquired in January 2024 and whisky, gin and rum brand, JG Thomson.
