Hong Kong adds seven new Michelin-starred restaurants

Michelin Guide has announced the full list of restaurants for the 2019 Hong Kong-Macau Guide, with new two restaurants that are being elevated to three-star status, namely Caprice in Hong Kong’s Four Seasons Hotel and Jade Dragon in neighbouring Macau.

10 restaurants in Hong Kong and Macau have been awarded the much coveted three stars in the 2019 Michelin Guide Hong Kong Macau

Caprice previously earned the coveted three stars but lost one with the 2014 guide following the departure of its former chef. This year saw the French fine dining restaurant reclaiming its third star once again. This means that Hong Kong now has seven three-Michelin starred restaurants and Macau has three.

The other six three-starred restaurants in Hong Kong are Bo Innovation, L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon, Lung King Heen, 8 1/2 Otto e Mezzo Bombana, Sushi Shikon and T’ang Court.

The other two three-starred restaurants in Macau are Robuchon au Dôme and The Eight.

Commenting on the 2019 Hong Kong and Macau Guide, Gwendal Poullennec, the international director of Michelin Guides, said: “Hong Kong and Macau are very special cities within the gastronomic world. They attract many tourists and business people from around the world, and as a result these cities have been blessed with gastronomic influences that oscillate between traditional Cantonese and Macau cuisine, combined with international flavours”.

The 2019 selection also includes four new two-star restaurants (three in Hong Kong and one in Macau). Ecriture (Hong Kong), which offers cuisine celebrating French specialties combined with Japanese ingredients, and Sushi Saito (Hong Kong), among the best Sushi restaurants in the city, make their very first entry in the Michelin guide with two stars. The Cantonese restaurant Ying Jee Club (Hong Kong), which had one star in the previous selection, this year gains a second star. In Macau, French haute-cuisine restaurant, Alain Ducasse at Morpheus, receives two stars, having only been opened in June of this year.

The guide also lists 55 one-star establishments, including six new additions in Hong Kong: Arbor, Guo Fu Lou, New Punjab Club, Octavium, Xin Rong Ji and Belon. Arbor and Belon are inspired by the codes of French cuisine, while New Punjab Club offers specialties from North India, and Guo Fu Lou serves tasty Cantonese dishes. Xin Rong Ji showcases some of the finest flavours of Taizhou cuisine and Octavium serves delicious Italian cuisine.

The 2019 selection includes 80 Bib Gourmand restaurants. These establishments, spotted by Michelin inspectors during their gourmet wanderings in the streets of Hong Kong and Macau, offer three courses (drinks not included) for a maximum price of HK$400 in Hong Kong or MOP$400 in Macau.
