Irish officials seize €107,000 worth of beer in Rosslare

Irish Revenue officials seized over 25,800 litres of beer, worth €107,000, at Rosslare Europort last Wednesday.

The beer was discovered in a series of raids which took place over the past week that also have seen officials seize large quantities of cigarettes and medicines.

On Wednesday 10 January, Revenue found over 25,800 litres of beer in a truck in Rosslare. The beer had an estimated retail value of €107,000 which represents a potential loss of €55,000 to the Exchequer.

The truck was stopped when it arrived from France “after routine profiling to identify alcohol products that may be diverted onto the market without payment of the tax due”.

On the same day, medicines suspected to be steroids with a retail value of €54,000 were seized at Dublin port. On Saturday, cigarettes and tobacco valued at €27,000 were seized at Dublin airport after being found in the luggage of two men travelling from Kuwait.

On Sunday, a further 216 litres of beer and 26 litres of spirits, worth €1,800, were seized at Dublin port for not having appropriate documentation.
