Cases stored in Vine ‘taller than Everest’

Liv-ex’s warehouse, ‘Vine’, has reached a new milestone of 120,000 cases in storage – a pile of wine that is technically taller than Everest.

Earlier this year Liv-ex announced that the millionth case of wine had passed through the facility but the amount of wine stored there now could take on truly impressive proportions should Liv-ex decide to get creative.

Having crunched the numbers Liv-ex reckons that all 120,000 cases set side to side would stretch for 39 kilometres (24 miles), a distance longer than the 34km between Liv-ex’s Battersea offices and the Vine warehouse itself.

Stacked into a single, rather tottering, tower, they would reach 24km into the sky, more than twice the height of Mount Everest, which stops at a rather poky 8.8km.

Ambitious as such jenga-like building projects sound, as well as being inefficient they would endanger Liv-ex’s customer’s stock rather. The effect on a case of Roumier or Petrus toppling from over 78,000 feet would be…detrimental to say the least and would no doubt shave a few quid off the asking price; precisely the sort of peril Vine is meant to eliminate as covered by the drinks business here.

Vine customers concerned that their precious claret is in imminent danger of reaching terminal velocity can rest easy however.

“Fortunately,” said Liv-ex, “stacking at Vine is much more efficient than this and the cases fit neatly into a single warehouse.”
