Vine handles millionth case of wine

Earlier this month Liv-ex’s storage and distribution service, Vine, handled its millionth case of wine since the introduction of UIDs in 2009.

A case of Meo-Camuzet Vosne-Romanée Cros Parantoux 2014 was the case behind the landmark trade, its unique case identifier (UID) tipping the counter into seven digits.

Vine has three facilities, in London, Bordeaux and Hong Kong, and every case of wine that passes through them is issued a UID, which allows it to be accurately tracked through the system.

Liv-ex co-director, Anthony Maxwell, commented: “We have been working hard to innovate by investing in initiatives such as SIB Passport and Instant Transfer, which are making it much more efficient to settle trades for fine wine.

“It’s great to see so many Liv-ex members making use of these services – we’ve recently expanded our warehouse team and capacity to handle the increased demand – and it was exciting to witness the millionth case pass through Vine recently.”

Liv-ex’s various technological innovations, including UIDs, LWIN and the Standard in Bond ‘Passports’, were profiled in the drinks business last year and can be read here.
