Talking urinal to stop drunk drivers

US authorities are trying to discourage drink drivers with target advertising: urinal deodorisers that “talk”.

A total of 400 talking “urinal cakes” were distributed across Detroit as part of a trial to combat drunks from getting behind the wheel.

Each device has a built-in recorded voice which says: “Listen up. That’s right, I’m talking to you. Had a few drinks? Maybe a few too many?

“Then do yourself and everyone else a favour: Call a sober friend or a cab. Oh, and don’t forget to wash your hands.”

Each disposable unit costs about £12 and lasts about three months before the battery runs out.

They are activated by motion, rather than moisture, says the company that makes them, Wizmark.

Wizmark also makes urinal deodorisers that “sing and flash lights”.
