Michelin-starred pub up for sale
The Fordwich Arms in Kent, which holds one Michelin Star, is on the market for more than £1 million – but it will be staying open for business.

Described by the Michelin Guide as the home of some “modern, creative and sometimes playful” cooking that is “never at the expense of flavour”, The Fordwich Arms is also praised for its location, sitting in “a delightful spot beside the river” with a “wisteria-covered terrace” that “affords wonderful views”.
Well, now the site is on the market, being advertised on Savills for in excess of £1,070,000, with a for sale let until March 2038 at a rent of £68,000 per annum.
The listing notes that the site has seating for 50 customers, as well as, among other features, a beer cellar.
Natasha Smith and husband chef Dan Smith, the leaseholders since 2018, have revealed their possible plans to buy it themselves.
Dan Smith told local news service KentOnline: “We are ourselves looking at putting an offer in.”
“[The lease] will renew to us as we have first right of refusal, but we are looking into an investment to buy the building,” he explained. “The sale is part of a wider range of pub sales by the current owners.”
The Savills listing makes clear that the business will be “unaffected by sale”.
The Fordwich Arms previously made the headlines when its (then former) manager went to an employment tribunal after they were sacked for taking £200 from a customer at the restaurant and throwing away the bill, pocketing the cash themselves.
