The serve, named “the badger” largely owing to its monochrome appearance, which Beer Writer of the Year David Jesudason re-brought to the attention of beer fans on X last week, saw him state: “I’d like to enter this into the current Guinness discourse” causing a stir on the social media platform.

Via X, Jesudason shared an image of “the badger” taken from a recent video posted by TikToker @mancavebartender showing how to recreate it. The video which has already secured over 43,000 likes, has also been reshared thousands of times.

The serve, which was originally created by staff at The Marine Boathouse in Skegness in Lincolnshire back in 2016 as part of previous Young Farmers Weekend celebrations, initially circulated on Facebook with the caption: “Don’t knock it till you’ve tried it! It’s amazing” and showcased both Diageo-owned brands. Noted as the “weirdest drink ever” as well as a “terrifying” beverage, the Irish dry stout-90s alcopop favourite hybrid is a highly divisive proposition.

Responding to Jesudason’s post of the drink, craft beer fan Jacques Kaderian asked the question: “What kind of ironman liver would you have to have?” Additionally, Bristol-based freelance designer and illustrator Matt Jeffs also said: “Posting pictures of Smirnoff ice should come with a warning, I think you almost triggered several repressed memories from drunken nights out from my youth.”
