Is Iron Maiden releasing a West Coast IPA with Lagunitas an ‘evolution’ for Trooper?
Iron Maiden has collaborated with Heineken’s California-based brewery Lagunitas to release Trooper West Coast IPA. db finds out more.

Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson has never hidden his love of beer. In fact, since 2013, his heavy metal band Iron Maiden has partnered with 11 breweries worldwide to produce Trooper. The beer has won awards and reportedly sold somewhere in the region of 45 million pints.
Rock ‘n’ roll and brewing
Iron Maiden’s next move for Trooper began when Dickinson met Lagunitas head brewer Jeremy Marshall who was based in the now fully Heineken-owned subsidiary in Petaluma, California. Revealing more about the collaboration and his yearning to create a beer with US stylings, Dickinson said: “The challenge of an American beer has long been on top of my to-do list.” However, describing why he chose the Heineken subsidiary Lagunitas, Dickinson said that “Lagunitas is a watchword for West Coast brewing” and assured that the partnership was simply based on a shared love of music and beer. He explained: “Our combined passion for rock ‘n’ roll and brewing equals an evolution for Trooper, and it has been a real highlight working with them”.
The 6.6% ABV Trooper West Coast IPA is purported to be “robust, resinous and fruit-forward” and features “Krush, Citra and Simcoe hops”.

‘Inviting’
Marshall said: “The beer itself is beautiful. It’s dry and inviting, with just enough fruit to keep things interesting.”
The beer label features the band’s mascot Eddie the Head which appears alongside the Lagunitas bull terrier. Marshall added: “Bruce is a rock icon and humble genius, so this collab really hits for me. I used to play guitar in various punk metal bands, so the younger me would be pretty fulfilled — even if the beer road ultimately took me further than my limited fretwork ever could.”
Lagunitas Brewery began pouring the first taste of Trooper West Coast IPA during a public release party last week. Trooper West Coast IPA will be available at Lagunitas Brewing Company’s Petaluma taproom with six-packs available to buy from select retailers in the US.
