This week in pictures features the db asia team in Hong Kong, an Italian producer’s tasting in London, celebrating Sherry Week, and the opening of the Pearly Queen in Shoreditch.

Hong Kong TDC International Wine & Spirits Fair

 

This week Asia editor Eloise Feilden visited the HK Trade Development Council (TDC)  International Wine and Spirits Fair with a delegation from the db asia business.

Fine Wine Experience

 

 

The Fine Wine Experience hosted a dinner with Théo Dancer on 6 November in Hong Kong. Despite his young age of only 23, Théo has been at the helm of his father’s estate – Domaine Vincent Dancer – since 2020. In addition to his commitment to his family estate, he keeps himself occupied with two distinctive side projects: his ‘micro-négoce’ business, Théo Dancer. Here, he crafts wines from diverse grape varieties sourced from their original regions—such as Aligoté from Burgundy, Gringet from Savoie, Gamay from Beaujolais, Savagnin from Jura, and Grenache from Southern Rhône. And Roc Breïa, a project where he established his own team and facility in Bray, northern Macon to produce one Chardonnay and one Pinot Noir.

 

San Felice

This week was a tasting with San Felice winery from Chianti Classico at Oblix, The Shard. Guests had the opportunity to taste the best vintages – Chianti Classico, Brunello and Bolgheri wines – from the producer based in Castelnuovo Berardenga, close to Siena. San Felice is a flourishing estate of 685 hectares, planted with vineyards (188 hectares), olive groves (60 hectares), and woods, producing elegant bottles in the Chianti Classico area, Campogiovanni in Montalcino, and Bell’Aja in Bolgheri. The estate is the fruit of an extensive program aimed at enhancing the uniqueness of the Chianti Classico terroir and its main grape variety, Sangiovese, the rediscovery of native grape varieties, and the analysis of the performance of international varieties.

 

Sherry Week

Raising a toast to the 10th anniversary of Sherry Week, the Consejo Regulador for Jerez-Xérès-Sherry and Manzanilla and wine communicator Ellie Scott kicked off the celebrations by hosting an exclusive supper club. On the evening of Tuesday 7 November, “A feast to celebrate a decade of Sherry Week” saw a collection of small plates featuring iconic tapas served alongside four styles of Sherry at Ibérica Victoria: Manzanilla La Goya by Zuleta Delgado, Amontillado by Gutierrez Colosía, Palo Cortado Leonor by Gonzalez Byass and Bristol Cream by Harveys.

Top boys and girls, Kano, Ashley Thomas, Professor Green, Gemma Oaten, Grime Gran, partied at Chef Tom Brown’s brand-new opening Pearly Queen to celebrate the launch of Shoreditch’s hottest new oyster bar this week.

The evening was fuelled by Guinness, the perfect partner to a freshly shucked oyster, alongside fried buffalo oysters with Tabasco sriracha, and devilled oysters too. Bumps of Exmoor Caviar circulated, and Shoreditch has very much firmly back on the party map.
