Champagne Bollinger unveils latest edition made exclusively from Pinot Noir

The Bollinger PN series, made exclusively from Pinot Noir, has been crafted by the Champagne house to express the qualities of this specific grape variety. The latest edition, PN TX17, showcases the expression of Pinot Noir from Tauxières 2017.

Champagne Bollinger unveils latest edition in the Bollinger PN Collection

Bollinger PN TX17 is the third edition of the collection.

The Champagne is a blend designed to showcase the distinctive features of wines from the Tauxières terroir, which make up the majority of the blend.

Charles-Armand de Belenet, general manager of Champagne Bollinger, said of the launch: “This cuvée made entirely of Pinot Noir is ingrained in what had become the very essence, the DNA of our House – an inimitable vision of an iconic grape variety and uncompromising efforts to fulfil the mission we started in 1829 as creators of taste.”

The significant proportion of Tauxières in this edition’s blend expresses the characteristics of the Pinot Noir from this terroir. Reserve wines, aged in magnums, have been added to bring further complexity to the blend.

Unfavourable weather made 2017 a particularly difficult year for Pinot Noir grown in Montagne de Reims, according to the brand, but grapes from this harvest are well-balanced, with a natural alcohol content of 10.1% and an acidity of 7 g/L.

The reserve wines contribute to the wine’s aromatic intensity, especially the Pinots Noirs aged in magnums for almost 11 years.

A press release put out by Bollinger describes the brand’s latest release as a “linear wine with great clarity”.

According to the Champagne house, the aroma of this edition of TX17 is first characterised by notes of dried flowers, joined by aromas of tobacco and mocha. The nose is sophisticated, subtle and complex, rounding off with notes of liquorice and dried fruit. The palate is fruity and highly refreshing, with notes of apricot, peach and exotic fruit, followed by flavours of acacia honey and spices. A lively, linear wine with great clarity.

The RSP for this wine is £85 and it will be available from Fine Wine Merchants.
