Trick shots: four deceptive drinks for April Fools’ Day
To mark the most mischievous day on the calendar, here are four drinks you can mix up to prank your pals with.
It may resemble a less than pint-sized pint of stout, but this rather cute creation contains no beer whatsoever. The most Irish thing about it is the Irish cream liqueur used to replicate the foam, whilst the black part is made using coffee liqueur. You could probably scale it up to a full pint if you’re committed to serving it to unsuspecting pals in place of their usual Guinness, but such a practical joke would make for a very impractical drink.
The classic Bloody Mary can be enjoyed with brunch or after a heavy night. But replace the traditional splash of Tabasco with something a tad pokier and it’s a different story. Which hot sauce you add, and how high it scores on the Scoville scale, is entirely up to you. A splash of The Last Dab, made famous on Hot Ones on YouTube, may be just the thing, but proceed with caution.

Served with a twist of lemon or ‘dirty’ with an olive, the secret ingredient is none other than the most abundant drink on earth – water. Sometimes nothing will hit the spot quite like a refreshing glass of something straight from the tap. Top tip: serve to your friends without telling them that it has absolutely no alcohol whatsoever and watch their behaviour change as they drink it.
