Piccini launches three new wines as part of gold collection

Tuscan wine group Piccini has launched three new wines as part of its gold collection, a collaborative project between fourth generation owner of the estate Mario Piccini and Riccardo Cotarella.

The wines – an Orvieto Classico, a rosato and a Tuscan IGT – now form part of the producer’s gold collection, or Collezione Oro, which was launched in 2003.

The unveiling of the new wines coincides with the opening of a new, state-of-the-art winery in Casole d’Elsa, Tuscany last January.

The estate describes the Orvieto Classico as a modern and forward-thinking white wine, while its rosato has been made “in the typical manner of Maremma Toscana, in a fresh and elegant style”. The Tuscan IGT is described as a red blend made from Sangiovese and Bordeaux varieties.

In a statement, the estate said it hopes the gold collection will build its reputation for high quality wine in Italy, as well as demonstrate its ability to respond to the needs of the consumer and the market.

Owner of Tenute Piccini, Mario Piccini, commented: “A year after the launch of the first wine of the Collezione Oro, the Chianti Riserva, an IRI study showed that this reference point was the best-selling Chianti label in Italy. After that, we realised that we were on the right track and that we had to continue.

“To give further impetus to the project, we have extended the line to other references and signed a collaboration with Riccardo Cotarella, a great professional with whom we also cooperate in a constructive way for other projects.”

Piccini said the gold collection had already successfully helped the estate to achieve “important results” in terms of volume sales and brand visibility. The wines are distributed via all the main channels within Italy.

Thanks to the range’s success in the domestic market, the collection will now be exported overseas. While successful within Italy, Piccini is present in over 80 markets. In August, the gold collection Chianti Reserva will also make its debut in the UK in Costco.

Commenting on the new project, winemaker Riccardo Cotarella said: “This is a project that is very exciting for me. Piccini is a company with which I was immediately able to work in harmony with, and I can only admire the work they have done over the years. The Collezione Oro is a line with a precise and recognisable identity, and I am pleased to be able to contribute to a project that aims to spread quality as well as good humour and conviviality.”
