World Bulk Wine Exhibition to host blending masterclass

The World Bulk Wine Exhibition (WBWE), the biggest gathering of bulk wine professionals in the world, will host a masterclass on the art of blending wine at its 10th edition, set to take place in Amsterdam in November.

Aimed at winemakers, buyers, bottlers and retailers, throughout two days different keynote lectures and workshops will run covering all aspect of blending wine, from red, white and sparkling wines, as well as the impact of factors such as barrel ageing and wood. 

The list of professors, consultants, winemakers, masters of wine, advisers and buyers line up to host the event will be announced soon, with some of the topics set to be discussed including wines suited to both baby boomers and Generation X in the USA, the success of rosé wine worldwide and how to make a blend with varieties from different countries,

“International wine trade requires design products depending on the market, regardless of whether they are bottled at origin or at destination,” said organisers. “This makes working together with quality and customers’ purchases departments essential, so understanding what they want and knowing how to get it is an added value for any winery or professional looking for success in international markets.”

Focusing 85% of the global supply for bulk wine, the WBWE is considered one of the most important trade shows in the wine sector calendar in terms of business transaction.

The show is exclusively devoted to wine professionals and is entirely focused on making business, with organisers expecting around €3.5bn to change hands during the show.

The WBWE provides a range of bulk wines and bag-in-box, ranging from wines with designation of origin or protected geographical indication, to wines with varietal denomination, as well as generic expressions designated for blends, or defined to elaborate sparkling or aromatic drinks, such as vermouth.

The capacity of multiple sales contracts, as well as packaging agreements, “confers a very much appreciated exclusivity to this exhibition,” according to an emailed statement.

The Art of Blending will take place at the World Bulk Wine Exhibition, which will take place on November 26-27 at the RAI in Amsterdam.
