Atherton’s Sosharu closes with plans to relocate
Jason Atherton’s Japanese restaurant Sosharu in Clerkenwell has closed its doors, but has plans to relocate to a new premises.

The restaurant closed on Saturday last week and both of its Twitter and Instagram accounts have since been deleted.
According to Atherton, reported by Eater, there are plans for the restaurants to be relocated to another site, but no further details have been confirmed.
Executive head chef Alex Craciun uploaded an Instagram post last week with a caption that read: “memories from Sosharu … #will #be #back #stronger.”
Sosharu, which opened in March of 2016 on Tunmill Street, was put up for sale last year with Atherton admitting that it had been failing to attract lunch crowds to sustain the high rent costs in the area.
In a statement Atherton said: “When we launched Sosharu in March 2016, we hit the ground running with critical success, however, with time we have found the location of Farringdon to be an incredibly tricky spot.
“We look forward to relocating in London and hope our loyal customers will join us there. The Social Company is very proud of the Sosharu brand and we believe in its longevity with the right site.”
Seating 80, the restaurant served dishes inspired by Japanese cuisine made with British ingredients. Based on Tokyo’s izakaya bars, the causal site shuns sushi and ramen in favour of tempura and teppanyaki dishes like pork belly udon; scallops in yuzu butter with pickled lotus root; and sea bass sashimi salad with shiso, apple oroshi and a ponzu dressing.
