Both teams are marking returns to the playoffs after long absences – 18 years for Jacksonville and 25 for Buffalo, in what was the longest playoff drought in the league for any team*.

Marking their return to the post-season, the Jaguars announced this week that they would be serving teal-coloured beer during their home game against the Bills on Sunday (the team’s colours are black, gold and teal).

ESPN reported that: “The special craft beer by Anheuser-Busch will be sold while supplies last. Delaware North, which handles the stadium’s concessions, also will be creating some teal food items for sale, though the company did not elaborate on what those could be.”

There are currently no pictures of what the beer will look like but hopefully it looks more appetising than the green novelty beers that re-emerge around St Patrick’s Day each year. At least the blue-green hue has the advantage of being named the “world’s favourite colour” after a survey last year.

Meanwhile, readers may remember in August last year a player on the Philaldelphia Eagles, Lane Johnson, promised to buy a beer for “everyone” if his team won the Super Bowl.

Well, Johnson may have been somewhat alarmed by his team’s subsequent performance which saw them go 13-3 and win not only their division but also the top seed in the NFC and with many tipping them to be a Super Bowl-worthy side.

Unfortunately for the Eagles but perhaps luckily for Johnson, the injury to quarterback Carson Wentz may mean Philadelphia isn’t destined for a Lombardi Trophy this time.

*It’s now the Cleveland Browns who haven’t been to the playoffs in 15 years.
