Trade invited to ‘surreal and slightly twisted’ wine event

Wines of Argentina is bringing its Barullo consumer and trade event back to London following its debut last year, promising that it will be unlike any other wine tasting – “surreal and slightly twisted”.

Taking place from the 19th to 20th October, the event will showcase modern Argentina, with guests able to sample more that 140 wines from 40 producers, with the tasting seeking to highlight some of the cutting edge themes emerging among Argentine winemakers.

“Many in the trade still think if Argentina as primarily a source of easy drinking reds, but today we are so much more,” say its organisers. “From soil mapping and concrete eggs to a re-discovery of traditional varieties and endless exploration of new regions, today’s generation of winemakers are setting the tone for Argentine wine for the next 50 years.”

In keeping with Wines of Argentina’s aim of “breaking the mould” when it comes to trade tastings, guests will enter via a pop-up shop (open to the public for off-licence sales throughout the two days), and descend into a space where they will be able to immerse themselves in a virtual vineyard tour of the country’s dramatic wine country, and sample the culinary creations of Argentine chef Lucas Bustos.

A trade only session will be held from 10am to 5pm on the 19th October, followed by a consumer event that will run each evening from 7.30pm to 1am.

The consumer portion of the event will turn into a party, with Argentine DJ and Chiltern Firehouse resident Guille Bones on the decks “spinning a slick selection of funk, soul, disco and house – with a touch of Latin flair”.
