HKQAA toasts on-going success

The Hong Kong Quality Assurance Agency (HKQAA) has toasted the continuing success of its accreditation schemes.

Held during the Hong Kong International Wine & Spirit Fair, the ceremony gathered together representatives from the various participating organisations. Newly accredited members were also given their certificates as were companies that have been signed up to the schemes for three to five years.

The HKQAA has two chief schemes, the first being the ‘Wine Storage Management Systems Certification Scheme’, which ensures standards in warehousing and transportation are kept up to protect wine quality. Fifty-seven companies including Crown Wine Cellars, Omtis Fine Wine and Kerry Wines are currently registered.

The more recent scheme, one covered at its launch in 2014 by the drinks business, is the ‘HK Wine Registration Scheme’ which recognises an organisation’s ability to properly account for all the wine it handles. Thirty-six companies including Corney & Barrow, Watson’s Wines and Schmidt Marketing are registered.

Ir Dr Hon Lo Wai Kwok, chairman of HKQAA said: “We are delighted that these two schemes have received positive responses from the government and industry members. A significant number of organisations have joined the schemes over the years. We are pleased to recognise the sustained commitment of our current clients and welcome all new joiners.

“With favourable feedback from the industry stakeholders, they will exert a positive influence and further encourage other industry members to enhance their professional level. This will definitely help improve the competitive edge of the Hong Kong wine business.”
