Le Clos to sell Haut-Brion ‘console’

Luxury travel retailer Le Clos has been chosen to sell a limited edition “console” of Haut-Brion in a special presentation case.

The case, which holds a bottle each of the 1935, 1949, 1959, 1961, 1975, 1989, 1990 and 2009 vintages of the first growth, was designed by Viscount Linley and has never been available in a retail environment before.

With added “secret” drawers holding silverware designed, created and engraved by Italian silversmith Buccellati, the case is being offered at US$305,555.

The console was designed in 2010 to celebrate the Dillon family’s 75th anniversary at the head of the first growth estate and now, to celebrate the 80th anniversary, this single case is being put up for sale in Dubai.

Fifteen were made in total and only a few cases have appeared for sale before, all at auction; one was auctioned for charity in 2012 where it made US$1.1m.

“We have had a long-standing relationship with Le Clos, and are constantly amazed by their global network of partnerships and their expertise and passion for the wine industry. It was important for us to select a retailer who is experienced at bringing rare and unique products to market and also who embodies the ethos and values of the Domaine Clarence Dillon. For us, Le Clos was a natural fit,” commented Jean-Philippe Delmas, managing director of Haut Brion.

“This is a rare chance to own a stunning and unique piece of furniture that encases some of the best wines of Bordeaux from the last century. All of the wines offered with the unit are sourced directly from Haut Brion, which is unique as a number of the vintages are no longer available to be sourced from the Château.

“We believe in bringing world-class experiences to our customers, and we are truly proud to partner with the team at Domaine Clarence Dillon to bring this exclusive opportunity to wine lovers and collectors worldwide,” shared Marek Sheridan, managing director of Le Clos.
