WineGB names new comms and marketing head

WineGB has appointed Kirsty Rushby from the Co-op, as it new head of communications and marketing at an important time for the domestic wine industry.

Rushby, who beat more than 450 candidates to the role, will head up the trade body’s marketing and communications strategy, working closely with producers, regional associations and trade partners to raise the profile of the sector, champion producers, and amplify “the industry’s unique narrative of quality, innovation and growth”, the organisation said.

She will also sit on the WineGB leadership team that driving support for the industries’ expansion, achievements and opportunities, at what is “a pivotal moment for the fast‑growing English and Welsh wine industry”.

“The strategic hire reflects the rapid growth of the UK wine industry.”

Rushby joins the organisation from the Co-op, where she spent 11 years in a series of senior roles in its marketing, PR and communication teams in the food and wholesale side of the business. She led the PR and profile strategy for the wine category, delivering integrated campaigns to resonate across trade and consumer audiences. Prior to this she spent four years at Manchester-based Brazen PR.

WineGB’s CEO Nicola Bates welcomed Rushby’s “wealth of experience” in strategic communications and brand storytelling, applauding her “enviable track record in food and drink communications” which will now benefit WineGB’s members.

“This appointment marks an important step in WineGB’s evolution, as our industry continues to grow in scale, reputation and economic significance,” she added. “Her expertise will be invaluable as we continue to build the profile and reputation of our industry.”

Rushby said she was delighted to be joining WinesGB “at such an exciting time”, calling the story of English and Welsh wine “one of passion, craft and rapid evolution”.

“WineGB plays such a vital role in supporting producers and representing the sector and I’m looking forward to helping bring that story to life in new and engaging ways,” she said.
