Why treat your beau to chocolate hearts and red roses when you could instead embark on a blindfolded meal, commission a bespoke poem or ‘illegally’ smuggle liquor in the Wild West? At db, we’ve rounded up the wackiest ways London’s bars are marking Valentine’s Day.

The Revery, Mayfair
Described online as “intimate, playful, a little dangerous,” this dining experience may also be a relief if you’ve messed up your makeup. On entering the bar, guests are blindfolded, and guided by voice, touch and scent through a tasting menu which includes three canapes and two cocktails for £55. Sensory immersion is promised, with ingredients placed in your hands throughout the meal. You won’t choose your drink, your partner will. Alternatively, the bartender will whisk up a secretly curated selection, for you to sip as the evening unfolds.
2. House of Sisters Grimm, Oxford Circus
From 11 to 15 February, Sisters Grimm – a new immersive experience in London’s weekend celebrating South African culture – will host a series of intimate performances of Grammy-nominated production INALA in an intimate, chld-free setting, featuring wine tasting, ‘adult games’ and immersive audiovisual art. Each ticket includes a welcome glass of pink fizz, and premium bundles are available – for up to £1,000 – including a range of perks, such as paired wine experiences and chocolate truffle pairings. After the show, guests can carry on the evening with premium pours at London’s only exclusively South African fine wine bar, iGOLI bar.

3. Lush and Hush, Notting Hill Gate
This restaurant has prepped a special set menu for Valentine’s Day that guides diners on a journey through land and sea, with a choice between two set menus, both split into five chapters. As each dish is served, guests have the chance to guess which chapter it represents, with those who guess correctly winning a complimentary cocktail. Premium ingredients, including Japanese A5 Wagyu, venison, foie gras, oyster, king crab claws and langoustine will play a part in the menu, with romantic floral arrangements adding to the air of romance.
4. Moonshine Salon, Houndsditch
Their Western cocktail experience will see you illegally bring in your own liquor, before entering the Moonshine distillery where you’ll have the chance to stir up bespoke cocktails amidst a cast of talented performers. There’s nothing that says true love like crime, especially when mixers, juices and syrup are all waiting for you to truly relish in the fruits of your successful smuggling heist.
5. The Coral Room, Bloomsbury
Renowned for his viral verses written outside the Globe Theatre, acclaimed poet Luke Davis is bringing his typewriter to the Coral Room on 14 February for the second year running. All guests have to do is share a memory, thought or idea, and Davis will craft a personal, bespoke poem while they look on, while sipping the bar’s exclusive Valentine’s Day cocktail – a blend of Código 1530 Rosa Tequila, Perrier-Jouët Champagne Brut, and Rose & Berry Shrub.
