Tilaknagar Industries makes decisive move into whisky
India’s Tilaknagar Industries has announced the launch of Seven Islands Pure Malt Whisky as the company plants itself firmly in the whisky category following the acquisition of Imperial Blue earlier this year.

Tilaknagar Industries is India’s leading brandy maker and one of the country’s fastest-growing spirits companies.
In July, the company purchased Imperial Blue whisky from Pernod Ricard’s Indian subsidiary for €412.6 million (US$486m), despite rumoured interest from Japan’s Suntory Group.
Imperial Blue, launched in 1997, is a blend of Indian grain spirits with imported Scotch malts, and is currently the third largest whisky brand in India.
At the time of the purchase, chairman and MD Amit Dahanukar said: “Having achieved leadership in the brandy segment, it is now time for us to broaden our portfolio and cater to India’s diverse and evolving consumer base.”
The company said its purchase “fast tracks its foray” into the domestic whisky category.

Now, Tilaknagar Industries is building its whisky portfolio with the launch of Seven Islands Pure Malt Whisky, made with four single malts originating from India and Scotland.

“India’s whisky story is evolving faster than ever, with growing consumer demand for premium and luxury expressions. Seven Islands marks TI’s entry into this dynamic category, bringing together Indian craftsmanship and global expertise to create a whisky that is both distinctly Indian and globally competitive,” said Dahanukar.
He described the expansion into the whisky category as “the next natural step for us”, particularly given the growing demand for Indian whisky in the domestic market.
Whisky accounted for about 66% of total spirits consumption in India in 2024, according to IWSR. By volume, Indian whisky grew 7% year-on-year in H1 2025, crossing 130 million cases and showing continued premiumisation.
Tilaknagar Industries’ luxury vertical, the House of TI, brings together Monarch Legacy Edition, its first luxury brandy, and an investment arm for India’s emerging craft players. The company continues to lead in the domestic brandy market with its Mansion House and Courrier Napoleon brands. Tilaknagar Industries also has presence in whisky, rum and gin categories through Mansion House Whisky, Madiraa Rum and Blue Lagoon Gin.
