Marqués del Atrio named official wine of La Liga

Rioja estate Marqués del Atrio has been named as the official wine of Spanish premier division football league La Liga in a contract that will run for three seasons.

In order to maximise this opportunity, the Rioja estate has appointed BRTnews as its new communication and public relations agency.

BRTnews will support Marqués del Atrio in communication and public relations, promoting the winery both in traditional media and in the digital sphere.

The winery, managed by the Rivero family, recorded a turnover of €39 million in 2016, with a production of 23 million bottles.

By 2020 Marqués del Atrio hopes to be among top 10 of the Spanish wineries for volume and value sales, which it plans to achieve by pushing both domestic sales and exports, which currently account for half of its total production.

In 2015, leading Chinese wine group Changyu Pioneer Wine bought a 75% stake in the winery, keeping the founding Rivero family in charge of the management.

Marqués del Atrio is run by CEO Jesús Rivero, while Chilean winemaker Rodrigo Espinosa is its technical director.
