Hoppers launches second London site

One of London’s most popular restaurants, Sri Lankan pancake specialist Hoppers, is to open a second London site, only this time it takes reservations.

Larger than its Soho sibling, Hoppers 2.0 will open in St Christopher’s Place near Oxford Street at the end of August with seating for 100.

You can still find queues snaking around the block at the Soho original, owned by Karam, Sunaina and Jyotin Sethi, the trio behind Bao, Gymkhana and newcomer Xu.

Among the exclusive dishes on offer at the new site will be claypot baby chicken kukul maas, string hopper seafood kothu; and kalupol black pork ribs with fennel and turmeric sambol.

Nearly half of the dishes at the new site will be new creations, including jaffna beef rib fry, and tuna and tapioca cutlets with avocado sambol.

Popular favourites like its signature hoppers dish, pancakes made from a batter of rice flour, coconut milk and spices, will be present and correct. Guests can also pre-book feasting menus served in four vaulted rooms downstairs from £28.

On the drinks front, the restaurant will shine a light on gin and arrak at its standalone bar, where those in search of a quick bite can grab some snacks.

If the second site proves a success the Hoppers concept may be rolled out to other parts of town in the near future. The original Hoppers in Soho came 13th in the UK National Restaurant Awards.
