Haut-Brion to headline London sale

A “magnificent” collection of Château Haut-Brion and La Mission Haut-Brion will open Sotheby’s next London sale this month.

Taking place on the 27, the sale from “An Aristocratic Cellar”, the wines were all bought directly from the châteaux and have not moved from the cellar since.

As such, Haut-Brion and La Mission agreed to recondition every bottle with fresh labels and wooden cases.

Sotheby’s head of wine, Serena Sutcliffe MW, said: “We are honoured that the current owner has chosen Sotheby’s to bring two of Europe’s greatest wines to an international audience.

“Haut-Brion is the connoisseur’s first growth, the classiest, finest-textured wine from Pessac-Léognan. La Mission Haut-Brion has first growth status and is more than their equal in depth, class and complexity.”

Star lots include three cases of Haut-Brion 1989 (£9,000-£12,000 apiece), La Mission Haut-Brion 2000 (£4,000-£4,400 a case) and Haut-Brion 1990 in cases, magnums and double magnums.

Also included in the sale is a large collection of Burgundy with stand-out lots of Armand Rousseau and Anne and François Gros.

A rare case of 1993 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Montrachet will also be on sale (£15,000-£18,000 for six bottles).

Château Rayas 2005 (£1,700-£2,200 for half a case) and collections of vintage Krug and Dom Pérignon head up the Rhône and Champagne sections.
