New Zealand winery Nevis Bluff enters Asia

Central Otago Pinot specialist Nevis Bluff will work with brand strategist Nimbility to drive sustainable brand expansion in the Asia region. Rebecca Lo reports.

Nevis Bluff will join forces with brand strategist Nimbility as the New Zealand winery sets its sights on expanding across Asia. The partnership aims to fulfil the Central Otago-based estate’s goal of building long-term distribution partnerships while securing in-market presence.

New Zealand wines have been trending across the Asia-Pacific region in recent years, with increased demand for vintages emphasising fruit purity, freshness and origin-driven styles. In particular, Pinot Noir from Central Otago has seen an uptick in interest from importers and on-trade purchasers.

In response to this demand, Nimbility will work closely with Nevis Bluff to identify and secure suitable import partners within the region. Further, to drive sustainable demand and long-term brand loyalty, Nimbility will support activation, education and visibility endeavours to foster sustainable growth.

Vinexpo Asia plans 2026

One of their initiatives will be at Vinexpo Asia 2026, where Nevis Bluff will join Nimbility from 26 to 28 May 2026 at Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre. Key importers and trade partners from across the Asia-Pacific region will be introduced to the winery, making the event an ideal opportunity to cement new distribution channels.

Nevis Bluff was founded in 1993. Its single vineyard wines are sourced from the L’Attitude Vineyard sited in the Pisa sub-region where its 45-degree latitude is the same as top winegrowing French regions. Long, hot summers balanced by cool night temperatures yield slower ripening of fruit, resulting in the intense flavours characteristic of Central Otago.

The terroir of predominantly free draining soils at an altitude of 350 metres above sea level further contribute to structured, expressive wines. With its certified sustainable portfolio through the Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand programme, Nevis Bluff’s Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc wines contributed to its reputation as a Pinot specialist with a key role in the region’s wine industry.

Starting a new chapter

“I am delighted to be partnering with Nimbility as Nevis Bluff enters its next phase of distribution with a strong focus on the Asian market,” said Rebecca Poynter, general manager with Nevis Bluff.

“We are excited by the opportunities this region presents and are confident that working with the highly professional and successful Nimbility team will not only help establish strong distribution partnerships, but also support and enhance long-term growth of our brand equity.”

“Nevis Bluff is a natural fit within our portfolio,” added Francesca Martin, Nimbility’s founding partner.

“We see sustained demand across Asia-Pacific for premium New Zealand wines—particularly Central Otago Pinot Noir. Nevis Bluff answers that demand with clear, terroir-driven wines and the consistency our partners seek. It is exactly the kind of focused addition that strengthens our ability to support importers with relevant, high-quality wines in a competitive category.”
