English wine goes digital at Artelium

Sussex producer Artelium Wine Estate has launched a digital cellar door designed to help customers around the world buy its wines directly, extending the vineyard experience beyond an in-person visit.

Sussex-based Artelium Wine Estate has launched a digital cellar door that allows customers globally to purchase its wines and arrange international delivery, in a move that reflects wider efforts within the English wine sector to broaden access and build direct relationships with consumers.

The new platform comes as UK wine tourism continues to grow, with more domestic vineyards attracting visitors keen to explore English still and sparkling wines.

Traditionally, smaller wine estates have faced challenges when it comes to international sales, with logistics and distribution often limiting overseas reach. Artelium said its new digital platform is designed to address those barriers by enabling customers to continue buying wines after visiting the estate or attending tastings and events.

Extending the cellar door experience

The platform combines international shipping with wine club memberships and curated collections, allowing consumers to engage with the brand beyond a single visit.

Artelium said the initiative is intended to ensure the wine tourism journey does not end once visitors leave the vineyard, instead creating an ongoing direct-to-consumer sales channel.

The move also highlights a growing trend among English wine producers towards using digital tools to complement tourism and improve accessibility, particularly for boutique estates looking to strengthen customer loyalty.

Artelium, which combines winemaking with art and hospitality experiences, said it sees the platform as a natural next step for the business.

Speaking exclusively to the drinks business, Artelium founder Julie Bretland said: “A digital cellar door is increasingly important. The ability to deliver wines to visitors from other parts of the world enables us to continue the relationship with them beyond the physical cellar door. Especially as English wine tourism is increasingly important for English wine producers & we are pleased to be able to deliver wines, with the help of our partners, to our guests to their home addresses in Europe, the States and South Africa.”

Potential trade opportunities

Alongside consumer sales, the platform could also offer trade buyers and international distributors another route to sample and order boutique English wines.

Artelium said this may create new opportunities for smaller UK producers looking to expand internationally without relying solely on traditional distribution networks.

The launch comes as English wine producers continue to explore new ways to capitalise on growing interest in the category, both domestically and overseas.
