Becle profits fall sharply as North America demand weakens

The world’s largest Tequila producer has reported a steep drop in first-quarter profits as sales declined in key export markets. Becle says restructuring and market pressures weighed on performance despite growth in other regions.

The world’s largest Tequila producer has reported a steep drop in first-quarter profits as sales declined in key export markets. Becle says restructuring and market pressures weighed on performance despite growth in other regions.

The world’s largest Tequila distiller, Becle, has been hit by a 67% slump in its net profit during the first quarter due to lower sales in its leading export markets, the USA and Canada.

For the first three months of the year, net sales and volumes shrank across all of Becle’s product segments.

Net profit for the first three months of 2026 was 388.2 million pesos (US$21.7 million) on sales of 7.79 billion pesos, 23% lower than in the same quarter of 2025.

North America drives volume drop

Becle said its total volumes were 13% lower, impacted by a 24% drop in North America, which was partially due to restructuring its American distribution network, where it ended its deal with the troubled RNDC group.

Elsewhere around the world, sales volumes increased.

Heavy reliance on key markets

Becle, which owns the Jose Cuervo brand, makes more than half its sales in Canada and the United States and a quarter in its home market of Mexico.

Discussing the sales decline, the company, which is controlled by the Beckmann family, said it had focused during the first three months of the year on discipline and strategy, which, “despite a challenging and contracting industry environment,” should benefit it in the long run.

In 2025, the US last year imported $3.59 billion worth of tequila, down 32% from a year earlier according to industry data, although this continued to surpass all gin, rum and vodka imports combined.
