How St. Tropez’s local rosé captures Provence terroir
Grimaud Les Aumarets Rosé, from the Les Vignerons de Grimaud Cooperative Winery in Provence, aims to capture the essence of the French Riviera in a glass.
Grimaud Les Aumarets Rosé is born in the vineyards of Cogolin and Grimaud, overlooking the Gulf of Saint-Tropez in France. Nestled in the shadow of the Massif des Maures, the Grenache, Cinsault, and Syrah grapes ripen in nearly constant sunshine. The sea-facing vines have an average age of 20 years, with some of the oldest, planted in 1901. This maritime terroir, distinct from the predominantly calcareous and basic soils of Provence, imparts a unique aromatic identity to Les Vignerons de Grimaud wines.
The Les Aumarets Rosé is an elegant, harmonious, luminous, and indulgent wine, perfect for fine dining and special occasions. Categorised as AOP Côtes de Provence, the wine blends 60% flavourful Grenache, 30% supple and light Cinsault, and 10% aromatic Syrah. On the nose, it opens with ripe red fruit notes of blueberry, blackberry, and raspberry, complemented by a hint of blackcurrant. The palate is rich and complex, striking a balance between freshness and lightly jammy flavours, finishing with nuances of exotic wood and ripe fruit.
For an ideal pairing, the wine complements shellfish, grilled red meats, and desserts. It is perfect with lobster Thermidor, a saddle of lamb, and Provençal stuffed vegetables.
Grimaud Les Aumarets Rosé is available in 750ml bottles and in 150ml and 300ml formats.
Stronger together
Established in January 1932 by eight men, Les Vignerons de Grimaud Cooperative Winery is one of the oldest businesses in the region and the largest in its sector in the Gulf of Saint-Tropez. Today, the winery oversees a 500-square-meter wine cellar and professional tasting room, and around 950 hectares of vineyards, with members receiving technical support from the cellar and an oenologist while following sustainable viticulture principles.
Located at the entrance to the Grimaud village on the French Riviera, three words are said to describe the winegrowers’ dedication to crafting fine wines: passion, flavour, and terroir. The ambition to grow, adapt, and innovate has motivated generations of winemakers at the cooperative. More than ninety years later, the visionary spirit of the founding members has helped establish the cellar as one of the largest in the Var region, with 250 members and an annual production of 55,000 hectoliters – two-thirds from Côtes de Provence and one-third from IGP Var. The merger with the Cogolin Wine Cooperative cellar has further solidified the company’s position as the largest wine-producing organisation on the Saint-Tropez peninsula.
Les Vignerons de Grimaud winemakers are dedicated to capturing the unique terroir of Provence, highlighting its distinctive flavours, colours, and aromas. They produce a variety of rosé wines, from lively festive options to very pale gastronomic varieties, each crafted for special occasions to be savoured and enjoyed.
