The week in pictures

This week in pictures brings you a bike ride, an international conference, a trip around Sicily, Brad Pitt and a party that didn’t really happen.

TFWA conference

This week saw the Tax Free World Association (TFWA) Asia Pacific exhibition in Singapore. The duty free and travel retail Asia Pacific summit is held every year, bringing together industry professionals for an exhibition and conference showcase of traveller-oriented, premium brands across Asia Pacific.

Sicily

This week also saw db staff writer Louis Thomas travelling across western Sicily with Assovini Sicilia.

Louis said: “From riserva Perricone to botrytised Grillo, it’s been an immense privilege to taste wines from producers making the absolute most of this magnificent part of the world.”

Bike to Care

The second Bike to Care event, a charitable bike race partnering big names in the international food and beverage world with wine producers in Burgundy and Bordeaux, was held in Bordeaux on 8 and 9 May.

In total, more than €400,000 was raised for associations in the restaurant and hospitality sectors that care for people in difficulty, encourage new vocations and support the training of new talent.

You can read more about the event here.

Brad Pitt

Hollywood actor Brad Pitt, who owns Château Miraval, has launched his first gin in collaboration with the Perrin Family and distilling legend Tom Nichol.

The Gardener Gin is a return to the classic London Dry Gin style, which the company said also “celebrates the lushness and light of French Riviera with a fresh citrus taste”, reflecting the art-de-vivre of the famous French region. Made from wheat in copper stills, it combines traditional botanicals juniper, liquorice, angelica and coriander with pink grapefruit, bright lemon and sweet and bitter orange from the Cap d’Antibes area.

It is due to launch at the Carlton Hotel as part of Cannes Film Festival next week.

…And a party that didn’t happen

Finally, it was the Coronation of King Charles III and one design studio in Australia decided to have a bit of fun with an AI photo app. Start Design generated a fake after-party featuring royals on the dance-floor and in the DJ booth.
