Entries now open for the Alan Lodge Young International Drinks Writer award

Drinks writers the world over are invited to submit the best examples of their published work for the chance to be awarded the title of Alan Lodge Young International Drinks Writer of the Year 2022.

Our sister title, The Spirits Business, is on the search for the drinks industry’s top writing talent, spanning everything from spirits and wine to beer and bars.

The award was established in memory of The Spirits Business’ late deputy editor, Alan Lodge. It is open to drinks journalists, columnists and bloggers under the age of 35.

Entrants have until 30 September 2022 to submit up to three pieces of writing, published online or in print between 1 September 2021 and 31 August 2022.

Submissions will be assessed by an objective panel of experienced judges.

The winner of The Alan Lodge Young International Drinks Writer of the Year Award 2022 will be announced in November, and will also feature in the December issue of The Spirits Business magazine, and online.

Past winners of the award include Felipe Schrieberg, who won the title in 2021, and journalist Susannah Skiver Barton, who was bestowed with the award in 2020.

Melita Kiely, editor of The Spirits Business, said: “There is never a dull moment of reporting in the drinks industry. The global geopolitical climate keeps journalists on their toes, while consumer trends can change as frequently as the seasons.

“There is also a wealth of writing talent in the international drinks trade, which has been evident from the high-caliber of entries I’ve enjoyed judging over the past few years.

“If you’re a writer with a published article, feature, interview, or blog post that you feel proud of, I encourage you to submit your entry into this prestigious award. You never know what could happen…”

Submissions should be sent as a URL, PDF or Word document and can be uploaded on The Alan Lodge Award homepage.

Alternatively, email your entry to Megan Smith – megan.smith@unionpress.co.uk.
