The Dorchester set to auction off 2,000 items ahead of major renovation

Mayfair hotel The Dorchester will auction off thousands of items next month as part of a major phased renovation project.

The auction is part of the London hotel’s largest renovation since 1989, and includes work on the property’s guest rooms, The Promenade and The Bar.

More than 2,000 items will be up for sale, including furnishings, artworks and accessories, for the first time in the hotel’s 91-year history.

Hospitality auctioneer Pro Auction will be leading the sale, set to take place on 21 and 22 June.

Fittings and furniture from The Bar and The Promenade will feature in the sale. Bidding will take place in person and via a live webcast, starting at 10:30am each day. A catalogue is available to download from the bidding website.

Signed prints by HRH the Prince of Wales, Derek Rangecroft and Heidi Koenig, and grand Murano blown glass chandeliers from Barovier&Toso will also be up for sale.

Hotel headboards and the contents of a bar designed by French architect Thierry Despont will also be made available.

Simon Rose of Pro Auction said of the sale: “This major renovation project for the hotel brings with it the opportunity to purchase a piece of the hotel’s history at auction as the owners pave the way for a new chapter for The Dorchester.”

The Dorchester remains open during the renovation; its largest in more than 30 years. Afternoon tea will be served in the Orchid room, with a new rooftop restaurant set to open this summer.

The Grill, Alain Ducasse and China Tang restaurants remain open, along with the hotel spa.

Martin Brudnizki Design Studio is responsible for redesigning the hotel bar. Designer Pierre-Yves Rochon will be in charge of reimagining the property’s interiors.

The first phase of renovations begin with the hotel’s entrance hall, The Promenade and The Bar, plus two guest floors.
