Austria to be in prime position in ProWein’s Hall 5

For the very first time, Austria will be showcased in the prestigious Hall 5 at ProWein in Düsseldorf between 15 and 17 May.

No fewer than 277 Austrian wineries will be presenting their top wines. Visitors will have the chance to sample approximately 2,200 wines, including reserve and aged wines, as well as those from the exceptional 2021 vintage, which has been summarised as “crystal-clear wines from perfect grapes”. Gruber’s Schmankerl Restaurant will also be providing traditional Austrian fare to complement the wines being showcased.

Toasting the news, Austrian Wine CEO Chris Yorke said: “Being directly next door to the big German halls will bring us a strong influx of industry experts with whom our winegrowers can network!”

Furthermore, 12 masterclasses organised by Austrian Wine will be held on Sunday 15 and Monday 16 May in the seminar area. These classes will cover a plethora of topics surrounding wines and winemaking from the country.

For example, from 11am on the Sunday, Sascha Speicher from the Meininger publishing house will be demonstrating the ageing potential of Austrian wines using selected Sekts, red and white wines, and dessert wines. At midday on the Monday, legendary sommelier Gerhard Retter will be taking the audience off the beaten track to explore Austrian wines beyond Grüner Veltliner and Blaufränkisch.

Recently, Austrian Wine also celebrated record export growth as its producers continue to garner attention on the international stage.
