Australian winery Mount Ophir Estate releases 2019 Shiraz at AU$500 a bottle
A Limited release, Mount Ophir Estate’s 2019 Shiraz will be available to purchase through registration only, at AUD$500 per bottle.
Located on 20 hectares of secluded farmland in Victoria’s Rutherglen region in Australia, the 2019 Shiraz is the estate’s first vintage under the ownership of Nick, Eliza and Angela Brown who purchased it in 2016.
The medium-bodied Shiraz originates from low-yielding fruit, hand picked from a single vineyard spanning 0.5 hectares.
Made using traditional techniques, the wine has been basket pressed following a 12 day fermentation period. It then spent 19 months in three 225 litre French oak barrels by Saint-Martin and Boutes.
Following a postponement of the launch due to ongoing restrictions, the 2019 Mount Ophir Estate Shiraz is set to be released on Thursday 16 September. A limited release, the wine will be available to purchase through registration online, and is priced at AUD$500 a bottle.

He added: “We look forward to sharing the fruits of our labour with those who are as passionate about wine as we are.”
Embracing a sustainable philosophy, the vines at Mount Ophir Estate are encouraged to grow wild with minimal intervention. Grapes are picked only when unaffected by weather conditions and natural disasters, including fires. Rutherglen’s continental climate combines with the red clay loam over quartz to give the wine its regional character.
With a harvest date of 2 March 2019, the Shiraz has an alcohol percentage of 14%. Shiraz grapes were hand-picked by Nick and Eliza brown from vines planted in the mid-1990s.
