TFWA unveils new digital platform

The Tax Free World Association has launched a new digital platform and unveiled an events programme aimed at supporting the recovery of the travel retail sector.

The TFWA has announced a number of new initiatives this year, which will aim to provide the duty free and travel retail sector with the platforms and resources it needs to recover from a turbulent year.

Speaking at a press conference, TFWA president Jaya Singh and the board thanked staff and the management committee for their hard work and resilience during the disruption brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic.

They said that the new announcements were made according to TFWA’s philosophy of ‘by the trade, for the trade’.

The new online platform, called TFWA 365, will be properly unveiled at the TFWA Asia Pacific Hainan Special Edition digital event, taking place from 21-24 June. The platform will be a “permanent resource” which will provide year-round support and services for TFWA members and partners.

Also announced was a “strong programme” of events due to be held as part of the TFWA Asia Pacific Hainan Special Edition event. These include online conferences and workshops, including “high-level panel discussions” featuring leading retailers and travel associations.

The TFWA is yet to release detailed plans for its TFWA World Exhibition & Conference. The association said there are several contingency measures in place “to meet the requirements of rapidly changing circumstances”.

The board, however, did stress that there was “considerable demand and desire” for a physical event and the personal element was vital. It said that whatever the format of the event, it will make “every effort” to provide what the industry needs.

Among the new initiatives that have been announced is a hosted buyers programme, which will give attendees the change to engage with key players in the industry.
