Castello di Buttrio launches silk labels

Friuli-based producer Castello di Buttrio has repackaged its wines with labels made from silk thread in honour of the estate’s history of silk production.

While researching the history of the estate, its owners found that one of the activities that used to be practised at Castello di Buttrio was breeding silkworms, from which precious silks were obtained.

The discovery happened while renovation works were taking place on the castle, when workmen discovered salt for drying silkworms.

Using silk thread as its inspiration, Castello di Buttrio’s innovative new labels are embellished with silk, as a tribute to the estate’s silk-making history. Each of the labels features an intricately detailed decorative background motif inspired by the Friulian textile tradition.

The label’s colours run the gamut from white, gray and cream to burgundy and racing green.

Among the wines within the Castello di Buttrio range are a Ribolla Gialla, Sauvignon Blanc and Merlot.
