Bargain Booze owner Bestway trials two new off-license formats
Bestway, the independent cash and carry and wholesaler that acquired Conviviality’s retail businesses Bargain Booze and Wine Rack in 2018, is trialing two new store formats to attract a broader demographic.
The new store, called BB and Tippl, are set to extend the existing fascia’s reach of a more affluent demographic, according to Dawood Pervez, managing director of Bestway Wholesale.
BB will be an offshoot of the established Bargain Booze format, offering a range of more premium beer, wine and spirits than Bargain Booze, as well as a range of convenience foods. Meanwhile Tippl is being developed as a new, broader format of Wine Rack that will stock more non-booze related products than a traditional Wine Rack.
The new trial formats will be launched in Buxton, Derbyshire and Garforth near Leeds.
Dawood told Better Retailing that BB was “developed to keep the heritage of the Bargain Booze brand” while also allowing it to encompass a wider range of convenience categories.
“Bargain Booze has fantastic cut-through in areas that require a value proposition on core off licence lines, but BB’s is a model that can help the brand cut-through in other, more premium areas,” he said, adding that Tippl was a similar concept for Wine Rack.
“The Wine Rack name suggests even more limited ranging and Tippl allows us to offer a broader range of beers, wines and spirits as well as food options.”
