Nathan Outlaw to relaunch two-star restaurant as ‘accessible’ concept

Nathan Outlaw has closed his two-Michelin star flagship restaurant in Cornwall and intends to relaunch the site as a “more accessible” eatery under the name Outlaw’s New Road.

Outlaw announced the rebranding of his Port Isaac fine dining restaurant, which has held two Michelin stars since 2010, on Instagram.

He said: “We are proud to have seen Restaurant Nathan Outlaw go from strength to strength over the years, but we wholeheartedly feel that it is time to change the restaurant to a new, more accessible and fun environment for both customers and staff.

“I am a different chef and person that started the original restaurant and get far more pleasure and reward from the simpler things in life, and that includes the way I cook and eat out.

“We’re incredibly excited to see where this new road leads us, and we will remain just as motivated by our mission to put seafood on your plate and create exciting spaces for guests and staff alike.”

Outlaw’s remaining restaurant, Outlaw’s Fish Kitchen, also based in Port Isaac, will remain closed until the team decides how best to use the space.

Outlaw told Big Hospitality that the decision to change the nature of the restaurant was one that had been weighing on his mind for a couple of years.

“I want to be happy in my workplace; I want my staff to be happy and having fun; and I think that’s what customers will want in the future as opposed the fine dining and more formal restaurant environment,” he told the publication.

The new concept will offer an á la carte menu, priced below that of Restaurant Nathan Outlaw, with the chef stating that it will more accurately reflect his approach to seafood cookery.

He told Big Hospitality that the team has some ideas for the Outlaw’s Fish Kitchen space, but “for the time being” would concentrate his efforts on the one restaurant.

It follows news last month that Outlaw’s London outpost, Siren, would not be reopening as part of a remodeling of The Goring hotel.
