Chase Distillery starts making hand sanitiser for key workers

UK vodka and gin distillery Chase has joined the likes of Pernod Ricard and Diageo by turning its facility over to the production of hand sanitiser.

In an email to the drinks business, distillery ambassador James Chase said: “I never thought I’d see the day when part of our distillery was used to make anything other than delicious tasting vodkas and gins…. but these are strange times.”

The company is working with its sister business, Willy’s Apple Cider Vinegar, to produce the hand sanitiser.

Called HR1, the sanitiser meets WHO standards, which require a minimum ABV of 60%. So far, 30,000 units have been sent out to key workers in Herefordshire, where Chase is based, and Worcestershire. The hand sanitiser is also available to buy online through Chase’s website.

“While it might only be small help, we hope it allows people stay as hygienic as possible during this challenging time,” Chase said.

Chase is one of many craft spirits makers in the UK that has started to produce hand sanitiser, as fears of coronavirus have led to a huge surge in demand and not enough sanitiser to meet it.

The company has also donated “several tonnes” of potatoes from its own farm to local food banks, and will “continue to do all we can to support those most in need.”
